OnBase University

Men playing baseballWhether you’re recovering from a baseball injury or wanting to improve your game, Dr Wells can help. Dr Wells is OnBase University certified in both pitching and hitting. On Base University is an educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to baseball. OnBase University certified professionals don’t believe there is only one technically correct way to play baseball. We believe there are an infinite number of ways to play the game. But we do believe that there is one efficient way for every athlete to play and it is based on what they can physically do. In other words, we try to match an athlete’s physical abilities to their technical skills. This helps them perform at the highest level possible.

If you are recovering from an injury, we locate imbalances or asymmetries that may limit your ability to heal efficiently. We will get you back on the field quickly but also we want to prevent future injuries. Previous injuries and asymmetries are two of the leading risk factors when it comes to injuries.

Every sport has unique movement patterns. We assess an athlete’s physical ability to perform these movement patterns specific for both pitching and hitting. These screens examine movement quality for both mobility as well as stability. The screens are specific for swing and pitch mechanics. Limitations in these areas can lead to inefficient and inconsistent mechanics that can limit performance and may increase your chance of injury.
We also examine video of the athlete pitching or hitting. We look for what we call inhibitors to hitting and pitching. We are looking for efficiency, power and repeatability. When we look at physical screens we see why the player throws or hits like they do & video allows us to show the athlete how the screens are translating to how they hit or pitch.

Based on your movement screens as well as your inhibitors and your injury history we develop an individualized program for you. Your program may include things like chiropractic care, soft tissue work, clinical nutrition, laser therapy, shockwave therapy, and functional movement exercises. Our goal is to increase the athletes power and improve their efficiency in hitting and pitching as well as reduce the risk of injury.
